Australia is a country abundant in natural beauty. Fortunately for LDK residents, our villages, The Landings and Greenway Views are close to the great outdoors and some of Australia’s most beautiful landscapes. Here are some highlights to experience the outdoors near our LDK villages.
There are so many things to do along Bobbin Head Road you could spend the whole day there! Located 30kms north of the city’s hustle and bustle, Bobbin Head Road is an escape to the peace and quiet. Empire Marina has a number of boats available to hire for spending a relaxing day adrift on the water or exploring the inlets between Bobbin Head and Cottage Point where there is the opportunity for fishing and bird watching. The area also has several restaurants and cafes, most notably the Waterside Bistro, Galley Foods Eatery, and The Bobbin Inn Café. And if a BBQ is more your style the area has many outdoor spaces to choose from accompanied by playgrounds and paddle boats.
Right on our doorstep is Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. This space provides more than scenic beauty. It holds a myriad of natural and cultural treasure and houses one of the largest known concentrations of recorded Aboriginal sites in Australia. From the Kalkari Discovery Centre, the Aboriginal Heritage Walk tour takes visitors to the West Head Lookout via the famous Red Hands Café. During the tour, all manner of wildlife can be seen including birds, reptiles and insects, along with sacred Aboriginal art and meeting places.
A dog-lovers paradise, North Turramurra has over 10 dog parks in the immediate vicinity with a number more just outside the area. Just minutes from The Landings, the North Turramurra dog park is the perfect location to take your pooch to enjoy the fresh air and greenery. And suppose you’re looking to travel a little further and change things up a bit. In that case, The Golden Jubilee Field, Claude Cameron Grove, Kent Oval, and Turramurra Memorial Park can provide a variety of natural delights for your enjoyment.
Lake Tuggeranong Circuit is a 6.7 km loop that locals and tourist alike walk, run or bike ride. The route has several small stops along the way including BBQ areas, playgrounds, a skate park, exercise equipment, Tuggeranong Town Park beach, various jetties, and various art pieces including an Aboriginal sculpture titled Gathering Place, Wellspring with Brian Carrick. The walk itself is filled with views of the Brindabella Ranges, birds and wildlife nesting nearby, and even people fishing on the lake or by the banks. The loop stops alongside Tuggeranong SouthPoint (still often referred to by its former name ‘the Hyperdome’ by locals) home to 150 retailers and restaurants.
The Pine Island Reserve is located minutes from the heart of Tuggeranong. The walking trail runs through open grassland and via the Murrumbidgee River to Point Hut Reserve, complete with a picnic area where dogs can run off-leash, a playground, and access to the water for swimming, canoeing or fishing. The trail’s flat ground makes it easily accessible for all. For the more adventurous Pine Island provide an access point to 27-kilometre Murrumbidgee Discovery Track.
A little further south, the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve is a haven for native wildlife including koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, emus, and even the ever-elusive platypus. Tidbinbilla also boasts a breeding program to help the Northern Corroboree Frog population, Southern Brush-Tailed Rock-Wallaby and the Eastern Bettong, so there is no shortage of animal activity. There are over 20 marked trails with walking times ranging from 15 minutes to full-day hikes, as well as regular guided activities taking visitors on a journey through Australian plants, animals and habitats, wetlands and waterbirds and the Aboriginal culture and heritage present in the area. The historic Nils Desperandum homestead and scattered European farmer settlements can be found via the areas various walking trails. The visitors’ centre has a Playground next to picnic and BBQ spots to sit and enjoy the fresh open air.
