Busting common myths about LDK Seniors’ Living

Care & support, Cost & affordability

When it comes to retirement living, there are plenty of myths and misconceptions. At LDK, we believe in honesty and transparency — so we’re setting the record straight. Here are some of the most common myths we hear, and the facts behind them.

Myth 1: LDK is too expensive

Many people are surprised to learn that living at LDK can be more affordable than expected. We provide certainty and transparency about fees and charges from the start. All costs are known upfront, and our model is designed to give clarity for life.

There are three simple components to our pricing:

  1. The apartment: You purchase your home. On exit, you receive the total cost back (depending on your chosen membership option).
  2. Village membership fee: A fixed fee that can be paid upfront or deferred until exit.
  3. Living expenses: A fixed monthly Recurrent Charge Fee that covers utilities like electricity, water, phone and internet. Residents also pay for meals and care services, with government funding available through programs such as Home Care, CHSP and DVA Community Nursing.

Myth 2: You need to sell your home before moving in

Not true. We know selling your home takes time, so we allow up to 90 days for settlement after your application. All we require upfront is a $5,000 deposit and signed residence contracts. Our Contracts Team supports you throughout the process, so you can move in without pressure.

Myth 3: We don’t offer high care

We proudly provide care through to end of life. LDK partners with palliative care specialists to develop personalised plans, delivered in the privacy of your own home. Our National Care Managers oversee high-care residents’ support, and our Registered Nurses and care staff are onsite 24/7. Emergency buttons in every home ensure help is always close at hand.

We also assist residents in navigating My Aged Care to access funding and ensure services meet individual needs.

Myth 4: When you buy into an LDK village, your home isn’t your own

Fact: your home is yours. Residents enjoy their apartment as a private residence, with the freedom to bring their own style, welcome family, and even apply to have pets. It’s independence with the benefits of community. Our team works hard to offer activities and programs that bring people together while respecting privacy and quiet enjoyment.

Myth 5: You will be isolated from the community

At LDK, community is at the heart of everything we do. Far from being isolated, our residents enjoy vibrant, active lives surrounded by friends. With over 70 scheduled activities each month, plus purpose-built communal spaces, there’s always something happening — from coffee catch-ups to concerts. Care plans can even include support to help residents join in activities, so no one misses out.
